What is Interpreting?

Interpreting deals with the spoken word NOT the written words…

Do you know the different types of interpretation modes?

  • Consecutive – each speaker pauses after a few sentences to allow the interpreter to render the speech into the target language
  • Simultaneous –when the interpreter is speaking at the same time the speaker is speaking
  • Conference – using interpreting equipment mainly used with large audiences and in a simultaneous mode

Did you know that when you SPEAK your CUSTOMERS language, it will place you ahead of the “pack”?…

When using an interpreter make sure that the interpreter knows and understands your industry and the terminology in both the English language and the Target language…

Remember, NOT ALL interpreters are able to interpret all areas of business…Example: A medical interpreter may ONLY be qualified, experienced to interpret in a Hospital, Physical Therapy, Medical Evaluations, etc, just like a Certified Medical Interpreter and MAY NOT have the experience to interpret in Legal, Technical or Conference settings…So, always make sure that you ask about their:

  • Skills
  • Experience and;
  • Qualifications
